Down With The Ship

I was raised in the Great State of West Virginia from birth. The oldest son of a Veteran and Registered Nurse. I was raised in a household, where pride in your country, your flag, and your freedoms was not only lived every day, but deeply ingrained in us. I proudly support my brothers and sisters, who have served. I make a point to thank every Veteran that I see, who is wearing a Veterans shirt, a hat, or a lapel pin. I always shake their hand and say, “From one Veteran to another, thank you for your service and sacrifice.” That’s the least that I can do for these men and women. My brothers and sisters.
My father took great pride in serving in the U.S. Army, till he retired. He is a proud Veteran. I took pride in having my Dad as a soldier. My Dad was my hero. Years later, at the age of 23, I decided to follow my Dad and I joined the Army. I served seven years, from November 1993 to November 2000. When I came home, I gave the last two years to the Army Reserves. The Army changed who I am. I am now a proud West Virginia Veteran. I fly my Nations colors proudly. I understand the true meaning of Memorial Day.
West Virginia has always stepped up when the United States needed us. From the Civil War, to Iraq, and beyond. West Virginians have been there. Fighting, sacrificing, and giving our lives for the freedoms of perfect strangers, as well as our own. I bring this up because many states, like West Virginia, have large Veteran populations. When someone signs on the dotted line to serve, we write a blank check, payable to the United States of America, up to and including death. We do this out of a deep sense of pride for the Veterans who have served before us and our Country and having a deep sense of duty. Those who served before us felt the same. To pick up where others have left off. To make sure that those who sacrificed, did not sacrifice in vain. This is 99% of what Liberals don’t understand and can not fathom.
Today, December 23, 2013, all of us Veterans are not only angry, but very angry. We do not ever ask of our country. All we really ever asked for, was to be treated as we have treated our Country. To be treated fairly and with respect. We signed contracts when we joined the military. We have always upheld our end and then some. Sadly, our country has not done the same. Our elected officials have again decided to rest a budget on the backs of Veterans, by cutting retirement benefits. Many of these Veterans cannot afford to have cuts hit them.
Right now, we have a federal government that is totally out of control. They are spend happy lunatics. Our national debt is now over $17 trillion and climbing fast. We spend billions of America tax dollars, all over the world, to countries that want our destruction. We spend billions on feeding and caring for their children, but we have starving children here. We spend billions on welfare, free “obamaphones”, and unemployment, adding more every year. Not one of these programs are being cut.
In West Virginia, Sens. Joe Manchin and Jay Rockefeller both voted in favor of these cuts, as did Reps. Shelley Moore Capito and Nick Rahall. Rep. David McKinley voted against it. The in favor votes, cast by Manchin and Rockelfeller are understandable, as they are simply Obama puppets. Rep. Capito talks about being for us, but casts an in favor vote? Rep. Rahall? I must say Thank You to Rep. McKinley, who actually did stand up for us. Out of our elected officials, one had guts enough to stand up.
I have spoken with many family and friends and not one of us support these cuts. I have spoken with local VFW’s and their members. Thus far, all of them are echoing the exact same sentiments. “We are very angry!” I would not be betting on my Congressional seat, Senate run, or much else right now. If you voted in favor of this, you have much to answer for. I can see the West Virginia TV adds now. Rep. Capito, Rep. Rahall, Senator Manchin: You all must now answer to your voters. Many of whom, are Veterans. You won’t be able to deny your votes.
As sad as ii is for me to say it. We stood for you. We fought for you. We bled for you. We even died for you. You could not even stand for us. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You should all be ashamed for allowing your states Veterans to suffer. Believe me, we are all highly ashamed of you. Not one Army, around the world can defeat us. Do you really think that you can? God Bless You! God Bless West Virginia! God Bless America!
