Rockefeller/Manchin Fail WV Again

“Congress has not unlimited powers to provide for the general welfare but only those specifically enumerated.”                   -  Thomas Jefferson

“Educate and inform the whole mass of the people. Enable them to see that it is their interest to preserve peace and order, and they will preserve them.”  –  Thomas Jefferson

I was reading through some news, from the Charleston Gazette, and came across an article entitled, “Spurred by MCHM leak, Rockefeller, Manchin push national chemical-tank bill”. At first, this article might appear that Jay Rockefeller and Joe Manchin are out to save the people or protect us from another chemical spill. That’s not what I saw. Skimming this article, it occurred to me that these two career politicians are simply ignoring the important issues for sublime ones. Which issues, you ask? Well, for starters, how about the issue of seniors, who are on fixed incomes, that have had their Medicare costs skyrocket, due to Obamacare?

I will use my own mother as an example for this. The United States was promised “affordable” health care, under the ACA. We were promised that if we “liked our policy, we could keep it. Period”. We were promised that if we “liked our doctor, we could keep them. Period”. So far, the ACA is not affordable, we can’t keep our doctors in most cases, and many had policies canceled. My mother worked very hard for about 20 years, as a registered nurse. She was not only a fantastic nurse and highly respected by her peers and the doctors she worked with, but she took great pride in giving excellent care to her patients. That pride and care showed. Then she was stricken with rheumatoid arthritis and was forced to retire, due to health problems.

My mother crippled quickly. She was given several prescriptions, to treat the pain, as well as try to slow the progression of the disease. Many of these meds are not cheap. She got lucky and was picked up for an experimental drug program. That drug worked wonders and drastically slowed the disease. The side effects were that it decimated her immune system, leaving her unable to fight off even a mild cold. She was hospitalized for a minor illness and they kicked her out of the program. Once again, she cripple quickly and is constant pain. Since the ACA has “become the law of the land”, our family has watched the costs of her medications skyrocket. She is now forced to pick and choose which medications she buys, due to being confined to a low fixed income. Medications that once cost her $10, now cost her $25, and a couple are way above that. Medicare now doesn’t cover the costs of her doctor visits as before, costing her $70 for a visit.

Instead of worrying about people, such as my mother, Rockefeller and Manchin worry themselves with a chemical tank bill. Please explain how this will help my mother. How will this help your aunt or you brother? Your father? You? The answer is… It won’t. These two politicians have simply jumped on the hot button topic of the day, in a sleazy attempt at gaining a few votes. I grow more ashamed of these men daily, as they fail the people of the Great State of West Virginia. Our hard working men and women suffer climbing costs, that cannot afford, while they worry themselves over this?

I worry about issues that hit home far more often than a chemical spill. Obama said that we need to “prioritize our money”, to afford his ACA. Did Rockefeller or Manchin argue? Did they do anything to change this? Did they even so much as voice an opinion, as to what this was going to do to seniors in West Virginia? Nope, not even once. Instead, they have blindly supported Obama, regardless of the pain it causes their people. West Virginia had better wake up and see the issues that matter and see the smokescreen they put up. Either “we the people” stand together or we will fall beside ourselves. God Bless You! God Bless West Virginia! God Bless America!
