The Enemy Within

November 8, 2013

Yesterday, I waded into the waters of the West Virginia senate seats, currently held by Rockefeller and Manchin. Those senate seats will be coming up for re-election, for 2014. At this point, Rockefeller has said that he will be retiring, so I won’t get into that seat, right now. Instead, I wish to focus on Manchin’s seat, as I’m sure that Manchin will be running for re-election. I don’t wish to bombard you with an overload of information, so I’m going to pick a topic, that Manchin has went against West Virginia and try to cover as many as I can. Today, I want to concentrate on his attack on coal. Publically, Manchin has said that he supports both our coal industry and our coal miners. Underneath the surface lurks something a bit more sinister. The very first vote that Joe Manchin made, as a senator, was for Harry Reid to be the majority leader. On the surface, not much ado, but look a little closer. Reid has been very outspoken about his stance on coal and his desire to “put coal out of business”. If you’re thinking “what power does Reid really have?”, I can agree. However, this goes higher, with Manchin’s support and backing of Obama. Obama said, “If somebody wants to build a coal power plant, they can, it’s just that it will bankrupt them because they going to be charged a huge sum for all that greenhouse gas that’s being emitted”. Senator Manchin defended this, by claiming that Obama opponents were misconstruing his comments. How can Obama’s comments be misconstrued, when that was a direct quote, from the president? Recently, Manchin backed a bill that would delay the individual mandate portion of obamacare, for one year. (I’ll get into the obamacare issue next) Manchin’s stance has nothing to do with healthcare, but everything to do with coal. After supporting Obama so heavily, Obama has ramped up his attack on coal, by pushing for more strict EPA regulations on pollution, blamed for global warming. I have no doubts, that Manchin has been in private contact with Obama, requesting the president to back off the coal attacks. Manchin knew full well, where Obama stood, when he generously handed over his heavy support. Now, Manchin is put in the position of making good on any threats he made to the president, in private. That leaves one thing, obamacare. Manchin can’t pull full support, however, so he stops with a delay for the individual mandate. The problem is, the president can’t back off his anti-coal stance, as he has more supporters than Manchin, backing his agenda.Again, Senator Manchin knew this before supporting Obama, but supported him anyway. Now, Manchin has to appear to support the West Virginians, that he abandoned, to support Obama. Why? Re-election! Fellow West Virginians, our great state cannot afford to have Manchin continue to support Obama and his attack on coal. Coal is at the top of West Virginia’s economic ladder. The coal industry employs several thousand men and women, as miners, as well as truck drivers, and others. Basically, Manchin is supporting the economic downfall of the state of West Virginia. Global warming is junk science, at best. To place this states trust, in the hands of Joe Manchin, is not only wrong, but immoral. Senator Manchin is not looking out for this states best interests, as he wants you to believe. Senator Manchin is looking out for the best interests of his own political career. Next week, I’ll get into the issue of Senator Manchin’s support of Obamacare. Till then, God Bless you, God Bless West Virginia, and God Bless America.
